Building on Experience in the Himalaya
IMEC has previously supported initiatives focused on improving conditions for porters in Nepal’s Himalayan trekking industry. This experience has contributed to our understanding of the challenges facing mountain workers and the importance of locally informed, collaborative approaches to responsible mountain tourism.
Our experience in Nepal, together with the development of our flagship program in Tanzania, has helped shape our approach to supporting mountain workers, strengthening local partnerships, and developing practical initiatives that respond to local needs.
IMEC does not currently operate a program in Nepal. While we remain interested in the future of responsible mountain tourism across the Himalaya, any renewed engagement will depend on capacity, local partnerships, and the resources available to support meaningful, sustained work.
We appreciate the interest of organizations seeking to work with IMEC and will share updates if our engagement in Nepal resumes.
