Supporting Porters (COVID-19)

The Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project has been using this extraordinary time of pandemic as an opportunity.  Covid has facilitated new educational offerings to support self-reliance of the mountain crew.  4,332 mountain crew have participated with the workshops outlined below.

  • 1st Village Savings & Loan Association workshop for 76 participants.
  • Training of 15 Community-Based Trainers to guide and oversee the savings groups.
  • Best practices in Organic Farming: 334
  • Vaccine Education Class: 621
  • Leave No Trace (LNT) Environmental Care Awareness workshops: 172
  • Training of 15 Porters as LNT Instructors –  a first ever for porters to be certified as LNT teachers!
